3. Our Services

Gamble Carpentry & Construction provides carpentry, general building and property improvement services in Plymouth and surrounding areas, subject to project requirements and availability.

Our services may include:

  • General building and property improvements
  • Carpentry and joinery
  • Kitchen installation
  • House extensions and internal alterations
  • Plastering and rendering
  • Dry lining and partitions
  • Painting and decorating
  • Fencing and decking

The services available for a particular project will depend on its nature, location, requirements and the scope of work agreed with the customer.

We reserve the right to assess each enquiry before confirming whether we can undertake the proposed work.

4. Quotations and Project Agreements

We may provide a quotation following an initial discussion, review of the information supplied or a site visit where necessary.

Unless otherwise stated in writing, information provided during an initial enquiry is indicative and does not constitute acceptance of a project.

A quotation should clearly identify the work included, the agreed price and any relevant conditions. Any expiry date or period of validity will be stated in the quotation where applicable.

Before work begins, the customer should review the quotation carefully and raise any questions about the scope, materials, costs or expected arrangements.

A project will proceed once the relevant quotation or agreement has been accepted and any agreed pre-start requirements have been satisfied.

5. Pricing and Payments

The price of each project will be set out in the applicable quotation or written agreement.

Unless expressly included in the agreed price, additional work, changes to the original specification or unforeseen requirements may result in additional costs.

Payment arrangements, including any deposit, stage payments, invoices and final payment, will be agreed with the customer and recorded in the applicable quotation, invoice or contract.

Customers are responsible for paying invoices in accordance with the agreed payment terms.

If a payment concern arises, please contact us promptly so that the matter can be discussed.

Any applicable taxes or charges will be identified in the quotation or invoice as appropriate.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions removes any rights or remedies available under applicable law.

6. Changes to the Agreed Work

We understand that customers may wish to make changes after a project has been discussed or agreed.

Requests to change the scope, specification, materials or schedule should be made as early as possible and confirmed in writing.

Depending on the nature of the change, it may affect the project price, materials required, availability or completion date.

We will discuss relevant implications with the customer before proceeding with additional work wherever reasonably practicable.

Work outside the agreed scope should not be assumed to be included in the original quotation.

7. Project Scheduling and Delays

We will discuss the anticipated start date and expected timescale for a project with the customer.

Any dates or timescales provided are subject to the circumstances of the project and should be treated in accordance with the relevant written agreement.

Work may be affected by circumstances such as:

  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Delays in the availability or delivery of materials
  • Unforeseen conditions discovered during the work
  • Delays in receiving necessary information, decisions or access
  • Changes requested by the customer
  • Delays involving other contractors or third parties
  • Other circumstances beyond our reasonable control

If a significant delay occurs, we will seek to communicate relevant information to the customer and discuss the next steps.

Nothing in this section excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

8. Customer Responsibilities

To help a project proceed smoothly, customers are expected to:

  • Provide accurate information about the property and proposed work.
  • Explain their requirements and raise any relevant concerns before work begins.
  • Provide reasonable access to the property at agreed times.
  • Make necessary decisions and approve agreed specifications in a timely manner.
  • Inform us of known issues that may affect the work, including relevant access restrictions or property conditions.
  • Ensure that personal belongings and valuables are protected or moved where necessary, as agreed before work begins.
  • Make payments in accordance with the agreed terms.
  • Ensure that permissions or consents that are their responsibility have been obtained before the relevant work starts.

Where access, information, approvals or other customer responsibilities affect the project, we will discuss any resulting implications with the customer.

9. Property Access and Site Safety

Building and improvement work may involve tools, equipment, materials and areas that are temporarily unsuitable for normal use.

Customers and other occupants should follow reasonable site-safety instructions and avoid entering restricted work areas.

Any arrangements for access by visitors or other contractors should be discussed in advance where necessary.

Customers should inform us of relevant hazards, access limitations or known property issues that could affect the safe completion of the work.

We will discuss appropriate working arrangements for the specific project.

10. Materials and Specifications

Materials, finishes, measurements and specifications will be determined by the applicable quotation or written agreement.

Where materials are selected or supplied by the customer, their suitability, availability and compatibility with the proposed work should be discussed before installation.

Where a product or material becomes unavailable, we will discuss any suitable alternatives with the customer before making a material change to the agreed specification.

Some materials and finishes may have natural variations in colour, texture, grain or appearance. Where relevant, these characteristics should be considered when selecting materials.

No material substitution or significant specification change should be assumed to be approved without the necessary agreement.

11. Planning Permission, Building Regulations and Other Approvals

Some building projects may require planning permission, building regulations approval, landlord consent, freeholder consent or other permissions.

The requirements depend on the nature and location of the proposed work.

Before a project begins, the responsibilities for identifying, obtaining and supplying any necessary approvals should be clarified between us and the customer.

Customers should not assume that a quotation includes planning applications, architectural drawings, structural calculations, building control applications or other professional services unless these are expressly included in writing.

Where specialist advice or approval is required, the customer may need to consult an appropriately qualified professional or relevant authority.

Work will be carried out in accordance with the applicable agreement and relevant legal requirements.

12. Cancellations and Termination

If you need to cancel or postpone a project, please contact us as soon as possible.

The applicable cancellation arrangements will depend on the agreement, the circumstances of the project and any statutory rights that apply.

Where work has already started, materials have been ordered or costs have been incurred, the parties should refer to the agreed terms and applicable law to determine the consequences of cancellation.

We may discuss suspending or ending a project where circumstances prevent the agreed work from proceeding. Any rights to terminate, recover costs or seek other remedies will be subject to the applicable agreement and law.

Consumer cancellation rights: Where a customer is legally entitled to a cancellation period, including for certain contracts agreed away from business premises or at a distance, those rights will apply as required by law. Exceptions and conditions may apply, including where a customer requests that work begins during a cancellation period.

Customers should contact us promptly if they wish to exercise a cancellation right or discuss cancelling an agreement.

13. Workmanship and Customer Concerns

We aim to provide careful workmanship and complete the agreed work in accordance with the applicable quotation or contract.

If you have a concern about work carried out, please contact us with a description of the issue and any relevant photographs or supporting information.

We will review the concern and discuss appropriate next steps.

Where a concern relates to the agreed work, we will consider our contractual obligations and any applicable legal rights and responsibilities.

Any specific guarantee or warranty will apply only where it has been expressly provided and will be subject to its stated terms.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Website Information and Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep the information on our website accurate and relevant.

However, website content is provided for general information about our business and services. It does not automatically form part of a quotation or contract for a particular project.

Photographs, project examples and service descriptions are intended to illustrate the type of work we may undertake. The outcome, materials, scope and suitability of work will vary according to the property and project requirements.

If you require confirmation of a particular service, specification or project detail, please contact us before relying on that information.

15. Website Use and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the text, branding, graphics, photographs and other content published on this website are owned by or used with permission by the relevant rights holders.

You may view the website and use its information for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You must not reproduce, republish, distribute or commercially exploit website content without the necessary permission, except where permitted by law.

You must not knowingly misuse the website, attempt to interfere with its operation or use it for unlawful purposes.

Third-party names, logos and materials remain the property of their respective owners.

16. Privacy and Data Protection

When you contact us through our website, by telephone or by email, we may process the information you provide to respond to your enquiry, discuss a quotation or administer an agreed project.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection law and our Privacy Policy.

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further information about the personal data we collect, how we use it and the rights available to you.

17. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or restricts liability where such exclusion or restriction would be unlawful.

Subject to that principle, our responsibilities in relation to any project will be determined by the applicable agreement and relevant law.

We are not responsible for losses arising solely from information supplied by a customer that is materially inaccurate, or from work undertaken by third parties outside our agreed scope, except to the extent that applicable law provides otherwise.

Customers should raise relevant property conditions, specifications and project requirements before work begins so that these can be considered as part of the agreed arrangements.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

18. Complaints and Disputes

We encourage customers to contact us directly if they have a concern about a quotation, project, payment or service.

Please explain the issue clearly and provide any relevant supporting information so that we can review it.

We will seek to discuss concerns constructively and identify an appropriate way forward.

If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, the parties may consider any available legal remedies or appropriate dispute-resolution procedures.

Nothing in this section prevents a customer from exercising statutory rights or contacting a relevant authority where appropriate.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our business, website or legal requirements.

Any revised version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.

Changes to these website terms do not automatically amend the terms of an existing project agreement. Changes to an individual project must be dealt with in accordance with that agreement and applicable law.

20. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions and any non-contractual matters arising in connection with them are subject to the laws of England and Wales, where applicable.

Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts with appropriate jurisdiction, subject to applicable consumer protection laws and any mandatory rights concerning jurisdiction.
